A nurse is supervising a certified nursing assistant (CNA) who is caring for a patient who is alert and oriented and independent concerning activities of daily living.

The nurse appropriately intervenes when hearing the CNA say to the patient:
  1. You should drink ice water rather than room-temperature water.
  2. Would you like to leave your socks on?
  3. Do you prefer your drinks with or without a straw?
  4. Would you prefer a cup of hot coffee, a glass of iced tea or fruit juice, or maybe a carbonated drink?
