Rural areas have always had few health care providers and facilities that were easily accessible. A large number of elderly people live in rural areas. Because people in rural areas tend to work for small businesses or are self-employed, many of them have no health insurance. Also, many hospitals in rural areas have been closed due to economic pressures.
