The nurse must be knowledgeable about the manifestations of client stress and anxiety, and recognize the stressors associated with being in the client role. Whether a client is being hospitalized or examined by a physician in an ambulatory care setting, the nurse should be sensitive to the client's anxiety level, try to determine which stressors are contributing to stress and anxiety, and assist the client to reduce stress.
