SlideshowReport

Some male birds and mammals congregate in communal courting grounds called leks.

Description
(a) Large numbers of male greater sage grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) gather on display grounds, leks, to perform a strutting display for gathering females. If a female is interested in a particular male, she will solicit a copulation from him. (b) Males fan their pointed tail feathers, hold their head feathers erect, strut around, swish their wings and produce air sac “plops” to get the attention of females.
