1. Be responsible with medications: Use antimicrobial drugs for bacterial, not viral, infections. Take the medications as prescribed and finish the full course.
2. Use regular soap, not antibacterial soap, when washing your hands: The antibacterial agents in the soap may kill normal bacteria, thus creating an environment for resistant, mutated bacteria that are impervious to antibacterial cleaners and antibiotics.
3. Avoid foods treated with antibiotics: Buy meat from animals that were not unnecessarily dosed with antibiotics.
