A projectile is launched with an initial velocity of 2.8 m/s at an angle of 30 degrees.  Presume there is no air resistance.  Acceleration due to gravity is 9.81 m/s2.  What is the maximum height the projectile will reach?

2.8sin30 = vinitial in the y direction.

it will reach its max height when v is 0

you can use, vf^2 = v0^2 + 2ay, solve for y.

Here's *how* you get the answer.

Calculate the initial kinetic energy given the initial velocity and an arbitrary mass 'm'.
Calculate the height given the launch angle at which the potential energy, again with arbitrary mass 'm', equals the initial kinetic energy.
