Internet Piracy Won´t Disappear
In this period of time, the Internet is in an exponential growth by its activity
and availability of content. That’s why Internet piracy is a very complex problem now days. Maybe it can be attacked at the beginning, but after trying and trying people can see it is nearly impossible to eliminate piracy. Hit one, countless others appear. Even the biggest Internet companies like Google have serious problems attacking piracy. “YouTube, which is owned by Google, offers a free tool to the movie studios and television networks called Content ID. When a studio legitimately uploads a clip from a copyrighted film to YouTube, the Google tool automatically finds and blocks copies of the product.” (1) But users avoid this type of copyright restrictions by using still photos in the video. In these cases, the algorithm has a lot of difficulties in finding illegal content. According to Torrent Freak, “the top pirated TV shows are downloaded several million times a week. Unauthorized movies, music, e-books, software, comics, photos and video games are watched, read and listened to via these piracy sites millions of times a day.” (2) People that are copyright holders believe new laws will stop this type of piracy. But many others believe any laws will just make people to look and find the way of getting the content they want in different ways without restrictions.
In conclusion, people should stop accepting piracy as a normal thing that
doesn´t have repercussion. People should stop downloading and seeing illegal and pirate content at the Internet. That is the only way in which piracy will end, not by attacking it or looking for algorithms or restrictions on users. People have to be aware of the work of others and what stealing that work can mean.
