Suspension feeding.

Description
Suspension feeders include species of both invertebrates and vertebrates. (a) Bivalves, such as the clam shown here, use a siphon mechanism to move water across their gills. Cilia located along the gills trap and move food particles to the mouth. (b) Baleen whales draw in water with their mouths and then use their tongue to force the water back out through the comblike baleen. The baleen filters out tiny organisms or bits of organic matter from the water.
