Pentose phosphate pathway

Description
The pentose phosphate pathway converts glucose to various other sugars, which can
be used for energy.

Its most important products, however, are NADPH and ribose-5-phosphate.

In stage 1, the oxidative phase, glucose-6-
phosphate is oxidized to ribulose-5-phosphate and CO2, with production of NADPH.

The remaining stages constitute the nonoxidative phase of the pathway.
