(a) The Joggins Fossil Cliffs, Nova Scotia, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008 because of the wealth of fossils from the Carboniferous period, including (b) the earliest known reptiles (Hylonomus lyelli) preserved within (c) the intact trunks of ancient lycopod trees.
