A double bond between two oxygen atoms

Tags
Description
Another common example occurs when two carbon atoms form bonds in compounds. They may share one pair of electrons (single bond) or two pairs (double bond), depending on how many other covalent bonds each carbon forms with other atoms. In rare cases, carbon can even form triple bonds, in which three pairs of electrons are shared between two atoms.
