The HIV/AIDS pandemic

This map shows the geographic distribution of HIV infections. Each region is shaded to indicate the prevalence of infection among adults. In addition, regions are labeled with the total number of individuals living with HIV and the sex ratio among infected adults. More than three-fifths of the people infected with HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa; another one-fifth live in south and southeast Asia. Data from UNAIDS (2005).
