Charioteer

Description
From the Sanctuary of Apollo, Delphi. c. 470 BCE. Bronze, copper (lips and lashes), silver (hand), onyx (eyes), height 5'11" (1.8 m). Archaeological Museum, Delphi.

The Charioteer
Most ancient bronzes were melted down for the sake of recycling material but this work survives.

This youth's face is idealized yet lifelike with its onyx eyes.
Realistic features of the figure's feet may have been cast from molds from the feet of a living person.
