Carnivorous plants of the genus Nepenthes grow in nitrogen-poor soil

Description
They secrete acids and protein-digesting enzymes into fluid in a cup-shaped modified leaf. The enzymes release nitrogen from small prey, such as insects, frogs, and rats, that are attracted to odors from the fluid and then drown in it.
