Morphological Convergence

Tags
Description

Analogous structures are body parts that look alike but did not evolve in a shared ancestor – they evolved independently in lineages subject to the same environmental pressures

The independent evolution of similar body parts in different lineages is called morphological convergence

Example: Bird, bat, and insect wings all perform the same function, but are derived from different structures
