Daphnia pulex

Description
Environmental effect on phenotype of the water flea (Daphnia pulex). Electron micrographs comparing Daphnia body form that develops in the presence of few predators (left) with the form that develops in the presence of many predators (right). Note the difference in the length of the tail spine and the pointiness of the head. Chemicals emitted by the water flea’s insect predators provoke the change.
