1 . Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), also called thyrotropin, is an anterior-lobe hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete thyroid hormone. 2 . Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), also called corticotropin, is an anterior-lobe hormone that stimulates the adrenal cortex to manufacture and secrete adrenocortical hormones. 3 . Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) are also produced by the anterior lobe and are called gonadotropic hormones. They regulate the growth and development of the gonads (ovaries and testes) and control the output of sex hormones that are responsible for the development of male and female secondary sex characteristics.
