Hey there Slight Smile

transcription factors (TF) are usually proteins that are typically found in the nucleus. They may be produced in the cytosol of cells and then translocated into the nucleus to do their job, or they may be produced in the nucleus and stay there if they are constantly needed.
Now, if we take a look at the nucleus, there is a lot of genetic material that codes for specific genes. These genes are preceded by a promoter which is controlled by a TF. Depending on the TF, it could either activate, or repress the activity of the promoter, hence the expression of the gene's sequence. I hope this clarifies Slight Smile
