Calculate the amount of diesel fuel needed to truck a 15-ton load of MSW from New York to Virginia, a distance of about 600 km (400 miles). Fifty-three-foot long diesel-powered trucks get about 4 mpg. Remember the truck has to return (empty) for another load.

The truck travels about 800 miles r/t and gets around 4 mpg. This would require 200 gallons of diesel fuel. Adjust according to the actual mpg of course.
