Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a disease caused by a mutation in a gene called the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). Among other functions, this gene helps create sweat and mucus. There is no cure for CF, and most individuals who have it die in their twenties and thirties.

Based on this scenario, what would you conclude about people who have CF?
A) They suffer from incessant coughing and lung failure.
B) They have extremely thin skin that is easily damaged.
C) They have elevated oxygen levels in their blood.
D) They have excessive growth rates that result in gigantism.
E) They have dangerously high blood pressure.
