I'm looking to go to a good college for Astronomy, I really like this subject because of the plethora of different theories and objects all over the universe, There's a few questions I'd like to ask.

What are the best colleges for Astronomy and Physics
What would I be looking to major in
What sorts of jobs are there for Astronomers and Physicists (Obviously NASA is a company but what sorts of Jobs)

I'm looking to go 4 years, Get Bachelors and skip Masters and directly do a PhD in Astronomy or Physics.

Any suggestions on this.

Thanks

University of Maryland and UMass Amherst are good ones that I'm looking at. Obviously Ivies and Berkeley but I don't know of many others but google it and you'll find something.

If it's offered, major in astronomy but also try to double major in physics. It's not that much extra work because a lot of the classes are the same. If astronomy is not offered as a major then major in physics.

I majored in physics in College, and went on eventually to Princeton for my PhD.  Currently, I'm employed as a professor of astronomy, which keeps a roof over my head.  It also gives me the opportunity to conduct research into cosmology, today's subject being M Theory.  Without a PhD, you will find it pretty difficult to find a post.
