A newborn weighing 7.7 lb has an estimated bladder capacity of 20 mL. If 25 mL/kg of urine is expected to be produced each day, how many diaper changes will this baby need? (Calculate by rounding to the nearest whole number.)

Explanation: First determine the baby's weight in kilograms by dividing 7.7 pounds by 2.2, or 7.7/2.2 = 3.5 kg. Then multiply the weight by 25 mL/kg = 25  3.5 = 87.5, which is the amount of urine produced by the newborn. Then divide the total amount of urine by the bladder capacity of 20 mL, or 87.5/20 = 4.375. With rounding, the baby will need an estimated 4 diaper changes each day.
