There was a major drug bust at your son’s school today. The police burst through the doors of the cafeteria with their dogs and everyone was told not to move. Two students attempted to run out the door and were immediately attacked by the dogs. Soon after, one of the students pulled out a gun and was ultimately shot by one of the policeman. A team of counselors are on their way to the school to provide a crisis debriefing for the students. Provide a reason why you would NOT want your child to attend the session.

Explain that while crisis debriefing can be beneficial, there is evidence that encouraging individuals to talk about their traumatic experience can actually contribute to the development of posttraumatic stress disorder.
