as long as you have a degree in medicine and certificate you can practice anywhere no matter where the degree came from its just that if you get a degree and certificate in another country then you must take an exam to practice in a new country and reknew your liscense for that country

Yes, the carribbean medical schools are often less competitive and some of them don't even require you to take the MCAT. The only one I actually know of is Ross Medical School(they do require MCAT) and there program is set up so that your actual rotations are done in the US. However, I think going to a carribbean medical school would present some of its own unique challenges. You may be judged negatively by your colleagues which is extremely important to consider in terms of where future employment or wanting to specialize. Also, I am not sure if government funding would be available because you are attending school out of the country? There are tons of medical schools in the states and if you are not overreaching and have decent credentials, it seems to be that there should not be a huge problem to get accepted somewhere. I would do some real research(not on YA), but I would truly treat that option as a last resort.

You will have a more difficult time getting into competitive residency programs like surgery and dermatology if you go to most of the Caribbean Medical schools.  St. John's is a British school and is looked at more favorably--I know a girl who went there and got into a competitive OB/GYN residency.
