Several weeks ago I had a vietamin D blood test done.  It was determined that I have a vietamin D deficiency.   The GYN perscribed 50,000 IU tablets one per week for 8 weeks.  I am due to be tested again next week.  If I am still deficient do you think the GYN will put me through the same regime again; or this a indicator that there is some other health issue that I will need to be tested for?
Second question;  My GYN perscribed the test and the rx.  But, I have an appointment to see my Primary Doctor in a couple of weeks about a different issue.  He will also have the results.  Do you think it will pose a problem or conflict if I just discuss the results and next possible step with him rather than the GYN?  It would save me an additional appointment and there have been some major communication problems with the GYN's office so I plan to switch to someone else in the near future.
Thanks

It is perfectly reasonable to ask your PCP if he could take over the management of the vitamin D because you are more comfortable with him and may be changing Gyn.  Bring the bottle for the tablets.  Your PCP will likely not have access to the prescription and may be hesitant to reply upon your memory of what you took.  (This is nothing against you.  Patients mis-remember all the time.)

The high dose Vitamin D (Ergocalciferol) 50,000 units x 8 weeks is the standard treatment for severe Vitamin D deficiency. It is controversial whether vitamin D levels should be rechecked after this treatment. Personally I do not repeat Vitamin D levels after the high dose course, because the high dose regimen is usually very effective in raising your Vitamin D levels and rechecking it is sort of a waist of time and money. If you have a repeat Vitamin D level after the high dose course, then I am 99.9% certain your levels will now be in the normal range. In the unlikely event your vitamin D levels are still low, then your doctor will likely repeat the high dose Ergocalciferol 50,000 units for 8 more weeks. Usually after a person has completed the high dose weekly vitamin D they will begin another type of Vitamin D daily known as Cholecalciferol 800-1000 IU daily to maintain Vitamin D levels. I would suggest you discuss this with your primary doctor over your GYN, because Vitamin D deficiency is treated by Primary doctors usually and not GYNs.
