COPIED EXACTLY: In a standard DNA isolation, what is the purpose of the protease? [in other words, what are the proteins that are most closely associated with DNA in the chromosomes?]

I get that protease breaks down proteins, but which specific proteins in this case?

Mainly histone proteins which are responsible for folding up the DNA.
