Hi. My chem. textbook says that the average bond enthalpy for an O-H bond in the hydronium ion is 84 kJ/ mol greater than the average O-H bond enthalpy in H2O.  I was trying to think of why this is. Is it because the extra H+ atom is essentially a proton, and when attached to the molecule increases the hold of the nuclei on the e- in the molecule?  Thanks a lot!

It's because the electrons of bond are dislocated in a bigger area than simple H2O, I think
