In a common double replacement reaction, how would I know which compound is the precipitate? Is it the one being a solid,(s)? What if it doesn't say the state it's in?

Thanks

Help, I understand the above, but what does it mean when it says; a solid is formed when 2 ions of an insoluble salt come in contact with one another? I'm trying to do net ionic equations, but still don't get what makes a solid from aqueous?
