1 -- The patient with pulmonary tuberculosis will be placed in airborne precautions, which means the patient will be in a private room with special ventilation, and masks with filter respirators used by everyone entering the room. Standard precautions are those infection control practices used for every patient. Droplet precautions reduce the risk of droplet transmission of infectious agents. Droplet transmission involves contact of conjunctivae of the eyes or mucous membranes of the nose or mouth with large-particle droplets generated during coughing, sneezing, talking, or procedures such as suctioning. Contact precautions reduce the risk of transmission by direct or indirect contact. Direct contact transmission involves skin-to-skin contact and physical transfer of organisms.
