When zinc oxide is heated with carbon, do you get carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide in addition to zinc metal?

probably it will be carbon monoxide since valency of zinc is 2,oxygen is 2,carbon is 2,4

so reaction is ZnO+C=Zn+CO

If you heated it in a closed chamber, you would get what Drt said.... CO

If you heated it in air, the CO would quickly combust with extra oxygen and the products would be CO2 and Zn. Carbon monoxide is considered a fuel gas and will oxidize to CO2
