1 -- The cause of trigeminal neuralgia is not known but contributing factors are recent flu-like illness, trauma or infection of the teeth or jaw, and arteriosclerotic changes of an artery close to the nerve. It is manifested by repetitive episodes of sudden severe pain on the affected side of the face. This symptom is not associated with Parkinson’s disease, Bell’s palsy, or myasthenia gravis.
