Despite problems, decolonization did result in independence from Asian, European, and American imperialists; in some cases, notably India, democratic regimes were established and achieved political success; although industrialization has been slow to occur, conditions of industrialization no worse than conditions in Europe during 18th and 19th centuries, urban squalor, underemployment, poor health care; difficult to overcome burdens of excessive population; conditions of limited capitalization, dependency created by external forces and imperialists.
