4.   DNA (3.5 x 108 base pairs) in diploid cells of Drosophila melanogaster is replicated in about 3 minutes. Assuming that all replication forks move at a constant rate of 104 base pairs per minute, what is the minimum number of replication units present in the Drosophila genome.

Answer: 3.5x10^8/(3x104)=849,514 replication forks

However, I can not figure out the formula used to calculate this..... Can someone please show their work to help me understand?

104 base pairs/minute.

In three minutes, you multiple that number by 3, which makes 312.

Now, divide the total number of base pairs by 312.

I think the method is right.
