After 1200, we begin to see the decline of the guild. What was the cause of this decline?

  A) As the governmental systems of Europe changed, the requirements of the guilds grew less stringent, quality declined, and thus, the guilds declined.
  B) Entrepreneurs were starting their own shops that were not regulated by the guilds. The competition forced the closure of many guilds.
  C) Papal edicts concerning apprenticeships became impossible for the guilds to comply with, allowing unregulated shops to thrive.
  D) The operation of many shops outside of the cities allowed them to supersede guild procedure, thus, forcing the guild to move out of the cities as well.
  E) The growth of international trade spawned industries of mass produced goods, created by semi or unskilled workers that were not required to be members of a guild.
