Ecological foot print is a measure of resource use (used to depict the amount of land and water in an area which a population in an area would hypothetically need to provide resources required to maintain a reasonable standard of living, given prevailing technology) .

Today's culture is increasingly a 'throw away' culture where goods are bought and quickly discarded, this is largely due to their small price tag and new versions of products which lead to increased rate of consumption of goods.

The developments in technology that have globalized the world, and its culture, have come in the form of improvements in transport and communication tech. This has made transport cheaper and increased frequency of travels (think of by cars as well as planes, budget airlines that have made air travel very affordable), leading to rise in ecological footprint (resource consumption)

Invention and development of tech and machinery have increased efficiency of resource extraction, this has in turn increased the volume of resources being extracted and processed to serve the needs (and greed) of man. Propelling resource use (and extraction ) is the prevalent 'throw away' culture observed almost everywhere int he world today, the true costs of producing a good is not reflected in the final price (think wage for workers, and costs of extracting and processing materials, both in costs money, and the environment) hence, fueling the demand of these goods which consumers soon lose interest in, due to every changing tastes and preferences of society and the act of keeping up with trends, and the latest models/versions of goods, leading to increased pace of consumption as one good is passed over for a newer, (although basically the same) goods.
