An onion root tip is observed and the whole onion root tip has 300 cells in total. Of these 300 cells, 198 are in interphase, 45 are in prophase, 33 are in metaphase, 15 are in anaphase, and 9 are in telophase. If a cell undergoes mitosis in 12 hours, then how long does the average growing onion cell spend in metaphase and prophase?

(45 + 33) = 78 are in both prophase and metaphase.

78 / 300 = 0.26

0.26 % * 12 hours = 3.12

Around 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 12 seconds.
