The more two genetic markers are tightly linked:
 
  a. the more likely it is that a recombination process will separate them
  b. the less likely they will both mutate during the recombination process

A genetic marker is a gene or DNA sequence. When genetic markers are tightly linked, they are more likely to be passed from parents to offspring.
