B) The relationship between a hostile response style and assertive discipline is negative. That is, a hostile response is condemning while an assertive response conveys to the student that the teacher cares too much about the student and about learning to permit inappropriate behavior to persist, Therefore, this analogy requires that a passive response which does not tell the misbehaving student what to do is to be paired with an "I" message, which communicates clearly in an assertive but non-judgmental way what the student is doing wrong, how it affects the teacher, and how the teacher feels about it.
