To answer this question, students can differentiate between the two terms or they could make specific references to the chart that closely examines the differences between them (on page 100 of the text.) Simply speaking, in the broken window approach, the probation officer is asked to increase communication and partnership with the community. The proactive supervision model is more structured, prescriptive, controlled, and evidence-based. They are essentially two styles of striving to reach the same goal: success and progress for probationers while maintaining community safety and security.
