The wave height is the vertical distance between a crest and a trough. The wavelength is the horizontal distance between any two corresponding points on successive waveforms, such as from crest to crest or from trough to trough. Wave steepness is the ratio of wave height over wavelength. Wave speed is the rate at which a wave travels. It is the distance traveled divided by the travel time.
