1.   What concentration of amylase did you end up using as your working stock? Why did you choose this concentration?
20% Because it was the only one that showed full digestion. The rest were all blue.
2.   What was the purpose of including the tube containing 0% enzyme and the tube containing only water?

3.   In general, what can you say about the effect that dilution of an enzyme has on the rate of the reaction it catalyzes?

4.   As the concentration of an enzyme increases, would you expect the rate to increase proportionally? What would you expect to happen if you allowed the reactions to proceed for a longer period of time? What would you expect to happen if you added more starch to any of the mixtures? Explain.

5.   Describe what happened to your reactions at each of the different temperatures. Were the results as you expected them to be? Explain.

6.   Explain in molecular terms what is happening to the enzyme at different temperatures and how this affects the reaction rate. Is this supported by your results? If not, describe some possible reasons why your results may have deviated from the expected results.

7.   Describe what happened to your reactions when you placed your enzyme in each of the different pH conditions. Were the results as you expected them to be? Explain

8.   Explain in molecular terms what is happening to the enzyme when you alter the pH conditions. Is this supported by your results? If not, describe some possible reasons why your results may have deviated from the expected results.

9.   Based on your experiments, what would you say about the optimum temperature and pH values for salivary amylase? What are the actual optimum conditions? Explain why that makes sense for salivary amylase.
