ANS: C
The most fundamental change in the gastrointestinal tract during pregnancy is the increased ab-sorption of the nutrients needed by the developing fetus. Gastric motility and tone are decreased during pregnancy because of the smooth muscle relaxation effects of progesterone. These chang-es result in delayed gastric emptying, prolonged drug absorption, and lower peak drug concentra-tions.
