After taking penicillamine for 4 weeks, a patient has not noticed any improvement. She should be told that:

  1. therapeutic effects may not be seen for several more weeks.
  2. she may not be taking a high enough dosage.
  3. she should be switched to another drug.
  4. she should take other antiarthritis medications at the same time to help in control-ling the symptoms.
