What is the biological function of the obligatory crossover that occurs between the X and Y chromosome during meiosis in the pseudoautosomal region?

Did a search on this question and found this question as 8.1 pg 298 here: http://books.google.com/books?id=0l9eyuzCP4gC&pg=PA298&lpg=PA298&dq=What+is+the+biological+function+of+the+obligatory+crossover+that+occurs+between+the+X+and+Y+chromosome+during+meiosis+in+the+pseudoautosomal+region?&source=bl&ots=Z5KIzvLG9d&sig=pgYPK4ArFD1O6KBfVUopMGwHPCU&hl=en&sa=X&ei=FY1hU_tEpdDYBazWgNAL&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=What%20is%20the%20biological%20function%20of%20the%20obligatory%20crossover%20that%20occurs%20between%20the%20X%20and%20Y%20chromosome%20during%20meiosis%20in%20the%20pseudoautosomal%20region%3F&f=false

In case anyone has that book or solutions in that book.

The function is to hold the chromosomes together in meiotic prophase, so that they can be oriented properly on the metaphase I plate of meiosis.
