In the Medical Model of Disability, disability is considered to be a function of physical characte-ristics or conditions which place an individual at a disadvantage as compared to those without the characteristic or condition. This model emphasizes the disabled person and the need to mod-ify the course of illness to give the disabled person a normal life.
