The nurse assesses that the patient who has acquired a nosocomial infection is most likely the patient with:
1.   an abdominal abscess following a ruptured appendix.
2.   lice and nits that have come from the Emergency Department.
3.   a urinary infection after the insertion of a Foley catheter.
4.   a 2-day postoperative hip replacement foot fungus.
