The family of a patient with Alzheimer’s disease asks the nurse, “When will my mother quit being so confused?” The nurse’s response should be based on the fact that dementia is:
1.   a short-term confusional state that is typically reversible.
2.   a state of confusion caused primarily by medications.
3.   confusion that usually begins abruptly and lasts a short period of time.
4.   a syndrome that is often chronic and irreversible.
