Using long, formal announcements in the conclusion, such as, In the previous paragraphs, I
  have endeavored to enlighten the reader
 
  a) gives a strong formal ending to the essay.
  b) works well in conjunction with the summary style of conclusion.
  c) is awkward and unnecessary.
  d) gives the writer more credibility.
