At what temperature does the numerical reading on a Celsius thermometer equal that on a Fahrenheit thermometer? (ans is 40 degrees but I want some1 to prove to me why that is the answer?)

You're right, it's -40...

Calculation:
Formula to convert Farenheit to Celsius: F= (9/5C) + 32
Therefore if F is going to equal C;
C = 9/5C +32
C - 32 = 9/5C
-32 = 4/5C
C = -32/4*5
C = -8*5
C = -40 = F
