These sounds are best heard between the scapulae and over the mainstem bronchi. Vesicular breath sounds are heard throughout the lung fields. These soft and low-pitched sounds have a longer inspiratory than expiratory phase. Adventitious sounds of these three classifications are described as crackles, wheezes, and rhonchi, respectively.
